Origin
Produced in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, located in the Southern Rhône Valley, France. This region is renowned for its prestigious red blends and unique terroir characterized by galets roulés (large rounded stones) and Mediterranean climate.
Variety
The Cuvée du Papet is a blend of traditional Rhône grape varieties, typically including:
- Grenache
- Syrah
- Mourvèdre
- Other permitted Rhône varietals
Production
The wine is crafted following traditional methods of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted to ensure quality. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in a combination of concrete vats and oak barrels to develop complexity and balance. The wine is bottled after careful blending and maturation.
Tasting notes
The CDP Cuvée du Papet displays a deep ruby color with garnet hues. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits such as cherry and blackberry, complemented by spicy notes of pepper, herbs de Provence, and subtle hints of leather and earth. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-structured with smooth tannins and a long, persistent finish marked by balanced acidity and complexity.
Food pairings
This wine pairs excellently with rich and flavorful dishes, including:
- Grilled or roasted red meats (lamb, beef)
- Game dishes such as venison or wild boar
- Hearty stews and cassoulet
- Mature cheeses like Comté or aged Gouda
- Provencal cuisine with herbs and garlic
