Origin
Jurançon Doux Pas de Deux is produced in the Jurançon appellation, located in the South West of France, in the Béarn region near the Pyrenees mountains. This area is renowned for its unique microclimate and terroir that favor the production of high-quality sweet white wines.
Variety
The wine is made primarily from the indigenous grape varieties:
- Gros Manseng
- Petit Manseng
Production
The grapes for Jurançon Doux Pas de Deux are harvested late to allow for optimal sugar concentration, often affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) which enhances the sweetness and complexity. The winemaking process includes careful pressing and fermentation at controlled temperatures to preserve aromatic intensity and balance. The wine is aged briefly in stainless steel tanks to maintain freshness before bottling.
Tasting notes
This sweet white wine exhibits a brilliant golden color with luminous reflections. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango, complemented by notes of honey, acacia flowers, and citrus zest. On the palate, it is rich and luscious with a fine balance between sweetness and acidity, offering a long, elegant finish.
Food pairings
Jurançon Doux Pas de Deux pairs excellently with:
- Foie gras and pâtés
- Blue cheeses such as Roquefort
- Fruit-based desserts like tarts and crumbles
- Spicy Asian cuisine, including Thai and Indian dishes
- Fresh fruit platters
