Origin
The Meyer Family Port is produced in the Douro Valley, Portugal, a renowned region for traditional port wine production.
Variety
This non-vintage port is typically a blend of several grape varieties common to the Douro region, including but not limited to Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca.
Production
The port is made by fermenting the grape must and then fortifying it with grape spirit (aguardente) to stop fermentation, preserving natural sweetness and increasing alcohol content. The wine is then aged in barrels to develop complexity before bottling.
Tasting notes
- Appearance: Deep ruby red color with garnet hues.
- Aroma: Rich aromas of ripe dark fruits such as blackberry and plum, complemented by notes of chocolate and subtle spice.
- Palate: Full-bodied and smooth with balanced sweetness, flavors of black cherry, raisin, and hints of vanilla, finishing with a warm, lingering aftertaste.
Food pairings
- Perfect accompaniment to rich desserts such as chocolate cake, crème brûlée, and berry tarts.
- Pairs well with strong cheeses like blue cheese, Stilton, or aged cheddar.
- Also enjoyable as a digestif on its own or with nuts and dried fruits.
