Origin
Produced in the Douro Valley, Portugal, Quinta da Pacheca is a renowned estate known for its traditional methods and high-quality Port wines. The LBV style is crafted from grapes harvested in a single vintage year, matured in wood before bottling.
Variety
The wine is typically made from a blend of traditional Douro grape varieties, including:
- Touriga Nacional
- Touriga Franca
- Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo)
- Tinta Barroca
- Tinto Cão
Production
The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo traditional foot-treading or mechanical crushing. Fermentation is carefully controlled to retain natural sweetness and balance. The wine is then aged for 4 to 6 years in oak casks before bottling, allowing it to develop complexity and smooth tannins typical of Late Bottled Vintage Ports.
Tasting notes
Quinta da Pacheca LBV Port displays a deep ruby color with intense aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, and subtle hints of spice and chocolate. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, with balanced acidity and velvety tannins, finishing long and smooth with notes of dark fruit and a touch of oak.
Food pairings
- Blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort
- Dark chocolate desserts
- Roasted nuts and dried fruits
- Rich meat dishes like lamb or game
- Fruit tarts and berry-based desserts
