Origin
Produced in the Douro Valley, Portugal, a renowned region for Port wine production. Quinta da Pacheca is a historic estate located in this appellation, known for its traditional methods and quality wines.
Variety
The NV Porto Tawny is typically a blend of traditional Douro grape varieties used in Port production, including but not limited to:
- Touriga Nacional
- Touriga Franca
- Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo)
- Tinta Barroca
- Tinto Cão
Production
The wine is produced by fermenting the grape must and then fortifying it with grape spirit (aguardente) to stop fermentation, preserving natural sweetness and alcohol content. The Tawny style is achieved by aging the wine in wooden casks, allowing gradual oxidation and evaporation, which imparts its characteristic amber color and complex flavors. The non-vintage designation indicates a blend of several years' harvests to maintain a consistent house style.
