Origin
Barros Colheita is produced in the Douro Valley, Portugal, a renowned region for Port wine production. The grapes are sourced from the Douro demarcated region, known for its unique terroir and traditional viticulture.
Variety
Barros Colheita is crafted from a blend of traditional Portuguese grape varieties commonly used in Port wine production, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca.
Production
The wine is made from a single vintage (harvest year) and aged in oak casks for a minimum of seven years, as per Colheita Port regulations. The grapes are hand-harvested, crushed, and fermented with the addition of grape spirit to stop fermentation and preserve natural sweetness. The extended aging in wood imparts complex aromas and flavors.
Tasting notes
Barros Colheita offers a deep amber color with golden highlights. The nose reveals rich aromas of dried fruits, nuts, caramel, and subtle spices. On the palate, it is smooth and well-balanced, with flavors of toasted almonds, figs, and honey, finishing with a long, elegant aftertaste.
Food pairings
- Perfect accompaniment to mature cheeses such as blue cheese or aged cheddar.
- Pairs well with desserts featuring nuts, caramel, or dried fruits, like walnut tart or fig cake.
- Excellent served alongside foie gras or pâté.
- Can be enjoyed as a digestif on its own after meals.
