Origin
Produced in the Douro Valley, Portugal, a renowned region for Port wine production. Barros is a respected Port house with a long tradition in crafting quality fortified wines.
Variety
Barros Colheita is made from a blend of traditional Douro grape varieties typically used in Port wine production, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinta Cão.
Production
Barros Colheita is a single-vintage Tawny Port aged in oak casks for a minimum of seven years. The wine undergoes controlled fermentation before fortification with grape spirit, followed by extended maturation in seasoned oak barrels to develop complex aromas and flavors.
Tasting notes
- Appearance: Deep amber with golden highlights.
- Aroma: Rich and complex bouquet featuring dried fruits, nuts, caramel, and subtle spice notes.
- Palate: Smooth and elegant with flavors of toasted almonds, figs, and honey balanced by a lively acidity and a long, warming finish.
Food pairings
- Perfect accompaniment to mature cheeses such as Stilton or aged cheddar.
- Pairs well with desserts featuring nuts, caramel, or dried fruits, like pecan pie or fig tart.
- Excellent served as a digestif alongside dark chocolate or almond-based pastries.
