Origin
Produced in the Douro Valley, Portugal, a renowned region for Port wine production. The Messias winery is located in Vila Nova de Gaia, where the wine is aged and bottled.
Variety
Colheita Port is made from a blend of traditional Portuguese grape varieties typical of the Douro region, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão.
Production
The Colheita Port is a single vintage tawny port, meaning it is made from grapes harvested in a single year. After fermentation, the wine is fortified with grape spirit to stop fermentation and preserve natural sweetness. It is then aged in oak casks for a minimum of seven years, allowing complex oxidative aging that develops rich nutty and dried fruit characteristics.
Tasting notes
- Appearance: Deep amber to golden brown color with a clear, bright intensity.
- Aroma: Complex bouquet featuring dried fruits such as figs and raisins, complemented by notes of toasted nuts, caramel, and subtle spices.
- Palate: Smooth and well-balanced with flavors of honey, nuts, and dried fruits, supported by a lively acidity and a long, elegant finish.
Food pairings
- Perfect accompaniment to mature cheeses such as blue cheese or aged cheddar.
- Pairs well with desserts featuring nuts, caramel, or dried fruits, such as walnut tart or fig cake.
- Excellent served as a digestif alongside dark chocolate or almond pastries.
