Origin
Echezeaux Grand Cru is produced in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy, France. The vineyard is situated in the commune of Flagey-Echezeaux, known for its prestigious Grand Cru vineyards.
Variety
The wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, the traditional variety for red Burgundy Grand Cru wines.
Production
Mugneret-Gibourg employs traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques, including hand harvesting and careful sorting of grapes. The fermentation takes place in open wooden vats with indigenous yeasts, followed by aging in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, for approximately 15 to 18 months. The process emphasizes minimal intervention to preserve the terroir expression and complexity of the wine.
Tasting notes
Echezeaux Grand Cru by Mugneret-Gibourg exhibits a deep ruby color with garnet hues. The nose reveals complex aromas of ripe red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry, and blackberry, complemented by subtle floral notes and hints of earth, spice, and forest floor. On the palate, it is elegant and well-structured with silky tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, persistent finish showcasing mineral nuances and refined oak integration.
Food pairings
This Grand Cru red wine pairs excellently with:
- Roasted or grilled red meats such as beef or lamb
- Game dishes including venison and duck
- Mature cheeses like Comté or aged Gruyère
- Earthy mushroom-based dishes
- Rich poultry preparations with herbs
