Mastiha of Chios

Mastiha is exclusively produced on the southern part of the island of Chios, Greece. This geographical indication is protected, ensuring authenticity and traditional harvesting methods.

The product is derived from the Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia, a subspecies of the mastic tree endemic to Chios.

Mastiha resin is harvested by making small incisions in the bark of mature mastic trees during the summer months. The resin exudes and hardens into droplets which are then carefully collected by hand. The raw resin is cleaned and sorted before packaging. The process is traditional and labor-intensive, preserving the natural qualities of the resin.

Mastiha of Chios offers a distinctive aromatic profile characterized by fresh, pine-like, and slightly herbal notes with a subtle sweetness. The resin has a clean, slightly cooling mouthfeel and a lingering, resinous finish.

Mastiha is versatile in culinary use and pairs well with:
