Origin
The Priorat Red from Nona Petit is produced in the Priorat region, located in Catalonia, Spain. This area is renowned for its steep slate vineyards and Mediterranean climate, which contribute to the wine's distinctive character.
Variety
This wine is typically a blend of traditional Priorat grape varieties, predominantly Garnacha (Grenache) and Cariñena (Carignan), which are native to the region and well-suited to its terroir.
Production
The grapes are hand-harvested from old vines grown on slate soils known as "llicorella." After careful selection, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with temperature control to preserve the fruit character. The wine is then aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for several months to develop complexity and structure before bottling.
Tasting notes
- Appearance: Deep ruby red color with purple hues.
- Aroma: Intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits, such as cherry and blackberry, complemented by subtle notes of spices, licorice, and mineral hints from the terroir.
- Palate: Full-bodied and well-structured with balanced acidity and smooth tannins. Flavors echo the nose with a persistent finish marked by a touch of smokiness and earthiness.
Food pairings
Priorat Red by Nona Petit pairs excellently with a variety of rich and flavorful dishes, including:

- Hearty stews and casseroles
