Origin
Produced in the Bandol appellation, located in the Provence region of southeastern France. Château Pibarnon is a historic estate renowned for its high-quality Bandol wines, situated near the Mediterranean coast, benefiting from a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild winters.
Variety
The wine is predominantly made from the Mourvèdre grape variety, which is the signature grape of Bandol red wines. It may include small proportions of Grenache and Cinsault as blending partners, typical of the region’s style.
Production
Grapes are hand-harvested from old vines grown on limestone and clay soils. The winemaking process involves traditional fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in French oak barrels for an extended period to develop complexity and structure. The wine is carefully blended and bottled without filtration to preserve its character.
Tasting notes
Restanques Bandol Red exhibits a deep ruby color with aromas of ripe black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant, complemented by notes of spices, leather, and earthy nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, persistent finish showcasing complexity and elegance.
Food pairings
- Grilled or roasted red meats (lamb, beef)
- Game dishes such as wild boar or venison
- Hearty stews and cassoulet
- Mature hard cheeses like aged Comté or Gruyère
